First Offenses

On the first offense, players will be punished appropriately to the offense committed. This may include anything from an experience penalty, to removal of the character involved.

Warnings

Each player will be assumed to have one warning for all but one-strike bannable offenses. All such warnings will be carefully logged where they can be reviewed by all server administrators and dungeon masters. Any player found to have commited a further offense, even if not the same one as they were warned about previously, shall be CD-Key Banned from Gatecrashers and will not be allowed to return. Additionally, that player's server vault will be deleted to make room for people who follow rules.

"One Strike" Offenses

The following rules carry an immediate ban for breakage. They are not applicable to the "One Warning" rule. We require that all players be familiar with these offenses, for second chances will not be issued and ignorance is not an excuse.

1) Harrassment, threats and abusive behaviour levelled at any player, dungeon master or server admin will result in an immediate ban. These actions must be proven, through use of screenshots and server logs.

2) Attempting or threatening to hack, crash or corrupt any of the computing resources of the server, including (but not limited to) the server, the webpage, forums, server vault or use of cheats and hacks to boost your character.

3) Falsification of registration information, including use of "shared" accounts. You agree that the account that you use on this server shall be used by you and by you alone. You agree that this account shall not be used or borrowed by any others and that you alone are responsible for the actions of characters on your account. "My friend did it" is not an acceptable excuse, because by agreeing to our rules (ie, playing on this server) you have agreed that that friend will not be using this account. Should a friend, acquaintance or family member wish to play, please refer them to the "How to Join" section of the website.

4) Exploiting mechanics, abusing bugs and cheating. Report bugs, don't abuse them.

5) OOC transfer of items between characters. Dropping an item on the ground for one to be picked up by another or having your friend something nice to give to the same character on an account is illegal.

Server Rules

Have fun
Gatecrashers is a serious roleplaying server. This does not mean that we don't have a serious amount of FUN on here, though.

The reason that we built Gatecrashers is to have fun as you would with your PnP game group. It is a place for high adventure and the best roleplaying this side of the Realms.

That said, respect others fun too. If you cannot have fun without ruining other people's fun, this is not the server for you.

Whining/Complaints
The DMs and server admins are not afraid of saying "I'm sorry, but that's the way things are here." We do not make drastic changes for the sake of change. Rather, if we consider changing something the first question we ask is "how will this improve the game experience?" The second question is "how will this ruin the game experience?"

Major policy changes will be slow in coming. There will be no Knee-Jerk Reactions.

Any major shifts in policy or game-play will be well discussed amongst the administrative team (Admins, DMs and Developers) before implementation.

OOC
Keep OOC chatter to tells or Instant Messenger programs (ICQ, MSN, AOL, Trillian, etc). This is a serious roleplaying server, not a chat room. Additionally, the party channel is to be used for In-character communication only and never for OOC. Be aware that the DMs see everything on the party channel, no matter where on the server you are in relation to them. If you must go out of character to clarify something related to the game, please mark your comment as being OOC. (Example: "OOC - Should I roll Reflex to avoid being grabbed, or Strength to break the hold?")

Resist the temptation to break the roleplaying down into pointless OOC arguments with DMs or other players. Those who cannot lose a PvP fight without immediately going into OOC to rant and name-call will be given a temporary server ban to cool down on the first offense.

Metagaming/OOC Information
Keep OOC information (what you know as a player) separate from IC information (what your character knows). If you read on the forums some background information or secret of another PC which is clearly OOC information, do not assume that your character knows it.

The same goes for world background. If you want to play an expert, make sure you have a high Lore Skill. You may be asked to roll against it to prove that you know that.

Using OOC information is punishable through experience point loss.

Powergaming
No Powergaming; Powergaming is defined as:
1) Rushing loot and/or xp spawning points on a fresh reset. Wait an hour.
2) Everyone must participate in a party. It is unacceptable for high levels to take lower levels out to simply watch and gain experience.
3) Deliberately jumping onto any DM quests that're going on just to get phat xp.
4) Looting and waiting for loot to re-spawn only to loot again. Don't do this - it's probably considered exploitation of mechanics when it comes down to it.
5) Looping around to do a dungeon more than once.
6) Using Invisibility, Stealth, or Greater Sanctuary to bypass encounters in any given area just to loot.

Munchkinism
Munchkinism will not be tolerated on this server. "The Munchkin's purpose is simply to be the most powerful thing walking, the centre of attention, and a PC fast on his way to dietyhood."
Basically, if your character starts off as the favoured son of Ut, god of All Things and has a character background that includes Ut's proclaimation that he will step down in five years and you will step into his place.. and it's now the fourth year of that five year wait.. You're probably a Munchkin.

Character Names/Titles
Give your characters serious in-character names appropriate to the setting. No "kewl l33t speak" names. No "Lord of Death". No "Mysterious Figure".

Do not use the names of famous NPCs from the setting. Avoid using names of famous people from real life history as well.

There are cases where use of a name that is a derivative of a famous person is alright. For example: Halaster Blackcloak is not allowed. Halaster of Silverymoon, who was named in honour of his parents hero, Halaster Blackcloak, would be acceptable.

Please do not use titles (Lord, Lady, Baron, Baroness, Marquis, Marquess, etc) in your name. These are roleplay rewards and can be earned.

Holy Avengers
No character without 10 levels of Paladin and a minimum of 18 levels in total are qualified to hold a weapon with the Holy Avenger property. They must be Lawful Good in addition to this.
If you find a weapon with the Holy Avenger property and do not qualify for its use, please give it to a DM for an EXP/Gold reward. Thanks!

Item Level Restrictions
All weapons and items found from Epic Dungeons, tagged as Epic Level and above, or +5 are limited characters of at least 21st level. Breaking this rule will result in loss of the item and perhaps more.
In addition, items that grant a spell-casting ability higher than that of the class able to cast it are likewise prohibited. For example: A level 1 cleric has a +4 Cleric's Ring - this gives them a level 4 spell-slot while they only know 1st level spells normally.

Widgets and Abilities
For those characters with wings, the widget to toggle the wings as invisible is only available to characters with the innate ability to hide wings, or with the spell-casting level for the spell alter self. If you wish to hide your wings otherwise, please use a cloak as they will automatically do so.

Player Housing
By application only. Must be inspected thoroughly before implemented into the server. Any player who wishes to have a private area added to the module must have at least two other PCs that would conceivabley be entering the area during play. Prices vary. All player houses are considered as DM property, and may be altered due to plots.

Prestige Classes
The following prestige classes will require DM approval in order to be granted to players:
- Shadowdancer
- Psionic
- Red Dragon Disciple
- Divine Agent

Player vs Player (PvP) Rules

The server is set to Full-PvP for realism. Excessive Player Killing (PKing) and anti-social behaviour, however, are against the rules. For example: Laying traps on area transitions. Player Killing new players for sport.

PvP can result as a part of roleplaying, but it should remain a part of the roleplay. Using your alignment or your character class as an excuse to kill other players on sight is unacceptable.

Player Killers should expect to have to deal with the local authorities, depending on the location.

Please Note

1) Pickpocketting has been disabled. Thieves have plenty of opportunities to engage their skills in other ways here.
